CHARLES “ANDY” HINSON, PGA
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Andy turned professional in 1984. He is currently serving as the Head Golf Professional at The Legends at Parris Island in Beaufort, SC. After completing his golf apprenticeship in 1988 in Hilton Head Island, SC, he then worked as an Assistant Professional in Highlands, NC and Rockville, MD. Upon moving to Philadelphia, PA in 1993, he served as the Head Golf Professional at Ingleside Manor, Teaching Professional at Meadowlands CC and as the Assistant Professional at Philadelphia CC. In 2002, Andy returned to Hilton Head as a Teaching Professional with The International Junior Golf Academy.
Currently rated the #3 Golf Instructor in South Carolina in Golf Digest’s “Best Teacher’s in the State”. Andy was awarded the 1998 Teacher of the Year and the 2000 Assistant Professional of the Year for the Philadelphia Section of the PGA. While living in Philadelphia, he was rated the #8 Golf Instructor in Pennsylvania in Golf Digest’s “Best Teacher’s in the State” and served on the Tournament Committee for the Philadelphia Section and as President of the Philadelphia Assistants Organization. He has appeared as the featured instructor in USA Today’s golf section and on PGA.com. He attends many teaching and playing seminars across the country and has studied the golf swing under such noted professionals as Craig Shankland, Bill Strausbaugh, Rick Martino and Gary Gilchrist. Andy has conducted numerous golf schools and junior golf programs in Western North Carolina, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia metropolitan areas and was nominated for the 1995 Junior Golf Leader Award for the Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA.
Playing experience includes the PGA Tour’s 1991 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic and the 1992 Jamaica Open. He still competes regularly on the Florida and Caribbean winter mini-tours and has had several top-ten finishes. Qualified for the finals of the 1992, 1993 and 1995 Rums of Puerto Rico National Pro-Am held in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico and the finals of the 1994 Oldsmobile Scramble National Championship held in Orlando, Florida. He was selected to the 1995 Middle Atlantic Section Challenge Cup Team and the 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002 Philadelphia Section Dick Smith Cup Team.
Married to the former Lori Wintrode of Danville, VA. Hobbies include reading, snow skiing and kayaking.
