The goal of Physical Fitness and Health Promotion is to improve the quality of life for the members of our community, and to enhance readiness through the mitigation and elimination of unhealthy lifestyles.

Group fitness classes are offered on both bases. Providing health-risk education, screenings and workshops on alcohol and substance abuse prevention and control, exercise and nutrition, healthy habits for youth, heart-healthy cooking, hypertension and cholesterol, injury prevention, STD & HIV prevention, stress management, suicide awareness, time management and tobacco cessation. Call to schedule aboard MCAS Beaufort or MCRD Parris Island.

Effective July 9, MCAS Fitness Facility will be partially closed for painting to improve appearance of the fitness facility.

PHASE I: MCAS Annex (Group Fitness area) and large & small Free Weight Rooms closed for painting. Basket Ball Court & Nautilus/Cardio/Racquet Ball courts will be open for business.

PHASE II: Basketball Court & the Nautilus/Cardio Rooms and Racquet Ball courts closed for painting. Annex and Free Weight Room will be open for business.

Group Fitness Cass Descriptions
(No classes after July 9 due to renovations)
Cardio Step A cardio workout for the entire body. All levels
Interval Challenge Intervals of a variety of cardio and resistance training for multi levels of total conditioning. Advanced.
Interval Step Alternating cardio-step with light dumbbell exercise. All levels.
Step Warm-up cardio step, cool down with abdominals and stretching. Will provide guidance for pregnant and postpartum participants. Beginner, Intermediate.
*Other classes available by request. Call for info!
*Unit PT available - class size limited.

Please call two weeks in advance to arrange Unit PT for more than 25 participants. Private Unit PT Requests must be made in writing. Group Fitness Cass Descriptions
Ab Attack A faster-than-usual paced ab program; lots of variety, intensity and effectiveness. All level.
Advanced Deep Water Fitness A challenging change of pace workout using a variety of equipment, focusing on cardio and strength muscles using water as added resistance. Intermediate/Advanced.
Cardio Kick Box A free-style material arts routine with medium impact. All levels.
Hydrocise 60 minutes of ultra low-impact shallow water exercise. Safe and fun for all levels.
Spin Indoor cycling, a non-impact exercise, allows you to participate at your own level. Bring a water bottle. All levels.

Gymnastic classes will be offered at MCRD Parris Island, building #287, 2nd deck, as of September 4, 2007.

These classes are designed a a beginner's level approach to Yoga, and vary in styles to suit your needs.

Yoga classes are based on the ancient practice of Yoga that helps individuals attain one of the greatest gifts of all - good health. Personal gains (a more flexible, strengthened and toned exterior) builds self-esteem. A wellness strategy combining both health promotion and exercise through Yoga and Pilates can facilitate positive lifestyle changes for you!

The benefits of Yoga include:
  • increased flexibility
  • better balance
  • increased lubrication in tendons and joints
  • working of internal organs and glands of the body
  • reduce stress
  • tone the body
Bring your own yoga mat, a water bottle and a small towel. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. No shoes needed during practice.
