Collections:
Your base libraries contain a wide selection of books and materials specifically orientated to the military community. An extensive and diversified list of new title, books on CD, DVD's and Playaways will soon enhance our libraries. Each library offers a wide range of titles including fiction, non-fiction, military history, the South Carolina Collection, children's easy, fiction and nonfiction titles as well as a new young adult area. Each library provides most titles that correspond to the various school reading lists.

McNaughton Books:
Selections from numerous best sellers' lists in fiction, non-fiction, large print and audio books arrive on a monthly basis.

Military History Collection:
The MCRD Parris Island Library boasts a comprehensive collection of US military history books in the General Gray Marine Warrior Library. Categories include reference, non-fiction, biography and fiction. The MCAS Beaufort Library maintains a limited collection of military history titles. Please use inter-library loan to acquire needed titles from the MCRD Parris Island Library.

US Marine Corps Reading List:
Both Libraries contain complete collections of the Commandants Reading List including those currently out of print. Several titles are also available on either cassette or CD. All titles are listed according to rank. First to Fight by LtGen Krulak is required reading for all Marines. Multiple copies are available for immediate checkout. Copies of the list may be found at either library or on the website.

COMUSMARCENT Reading List:
This collection of books, Marine Corps publications, newspapers and magazine articles is separated into specific regions within CENTCOMOR. Listed readings, which are arranged by rank, are appropriate for particular areas of deployment to ensure that all marines are prepared for cultural and environmental challenges. Lists are available at each library. Each library is currently building this collection.

Reference Collection
Reference selections at both libraries directly reflect the education courses taught at the universities and colleges on each base. Educators may call the libraries to make arrangements for library orientation for their students. The library staff will instruct students about the online catalog, reference sources specific to the student's class and provide additional information as needed. Online resources are also available at both libraries. There are numerous online resources available at both libraries. Please call either library for all password information. One such online resource is the GALE Thompson Information Database Group that provides extensive information at multiple levels and includes many newspapers, and children's research sources. Please call either library for password to all sites.

Tutor.com
Tutor.com is the newest data base available to the Marines and their families. This innovative online after-school program connects the student to a tutor who will provide homework help in all core academic subjects. The program is designed to help students in grades K-12 as well as adult learners. The program may be accessed from several different locations. Enter the password and closest library installation which is either Parris Island or Beaufort Library. Proceed to the home page, add the grade level and subject area where assistance is needed. The Rosetta Stone contract has been approved and will be operational in the near future.

Tax Information:
Each library provides all tax forms and publications, including reproducible paper forms and Internet accessible forms.

Fax, Internet and Copying Services:
The libraries maintain Internet ready computers with printing capability. The libraries also provide scanning services. There are no limits on the number copies. All copying and printing needs are provided free of charge to all patrons. The library staff will fax needed materials.

Story Time on MCRD Parris Island:
Story time is held the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month for the CDC at 0945. All children, ages 3-6, are welcome to attend. Snacks are served each month. Additional story times are available upon request. Please call 843-228-1671 for setup.

Story Time at the MCCS Air Station Library:
Story time and related activities are held on the third Thursday of each month at 0900 for CDC. All children, ages 3-6, are welcome to attend.
